Building tomorrow

This is my first FAA blog post.
Gotta start somewhere.

Building tomorrow's customers base, the McDonald's way.
I'm doing a lot of public shows, conventions, art shows, book fairs and so on.

At every show, I always prepare freebies, have something with me to give for free to the young audience. Kids, teens, those young visitors who stop by to take a look at my artwork, books and prints. They don't have the money to buy something, so I simply discuss with them, and hand them a little something. Postcard, small prints, sometimes a 12 pages comicbook I've drawn and printed in a hundred copies just for the event. A small investment but the look in their eyes when they get something free is very well worth it.

I've been there too, when I was young and visiting book shows, there were artists there, and I was spending lots of time in front of their booth to look at their work. Didn't have any money to buy stuff. Some of them gave me freebies, just like that. Decades later I still remember their names. And I still follow their career. They inspired me and deeply influenced my own artistic career. I'm also a sold customer to their work. Now it's my turn to do the same with a younger generation.

Yes, I'm building tomorrow's fan base, people who will eventually buy my prints. Or maybe not.
But I'm trying to do more than just that. I'm trying to make someone life's better by having them to try an art career.

And the best things happen. When I do art conventions, sometimes I see young artists that come to me and say: "I met you X years ago and you encouraged me to continue making art! It's my first show, my booth is in the next alley."

It's great to build tomorrow's customers base, but it's so much more satisfying to contribute to the rise of new artists.
